About the Game

A map full of states, a color-coded territory system, and one objective: turn everything on the board blue before your opponent turns it red. State io Wars is a 2D strategy game built around the tension of expanding your territory while simultaneously defending what you already have. Every decision about where to send troops is a trade-off between aggression and protection, and the opponent is making the same calculation in real time.

How Territory Works

States appear in three colors. Blue territories are yours and actively generating new soldiers the longer you hold them. Gray states are neutral and available for either side to take. Red states belong to your opponent. Every state has a number displayed on it showing how many troops are needed to capture it, and you need to deploy at least that many soldiers to take it. Send too few and the attempt fails, leaving your troops depleted and the state unchanged. The neutral gray areas are the safer expansion targets early on, but leaving red states unchallenged while you build up territory elsewhere gives your opponent time to strengthen and counterattack.

Managing Your Army

Captured states produce soldiers continuously, which means holding more territory directly accelerates how quickly your army grows. A player who controls more states generates troops faster, which compounds into an advantage that becomes increasingly difficult to overcome the longer it goes unaddressed. Sending a large portion of your soldiers from a well-defended blue state toward an opponent’s territory is the core aggressive move, but leaving that source state too exposed invites an immediate counter that can flip it red before your troops return.

Upgrades and Progression

Completing levels earns coins that go toward three upgrades: attack speed, starting troop count, and coin earnings per level. Attack speed affects how quickly your deployed soldiers reach their destination, which matters in contested situations where both sides are sending troops to the same state simultaneously. Starting troop count gives you a stronger opening position from the first move of each level. Investing in these between levels builds a cumulative advantage that makes later and more complex maps more manageable.
