About the Game
Stone Age soldiers, prehistoric resources, and caves to conquer. Age Of Battle is a strategy game that starts you in the most primitive era available and builds progression around both tactical battlefield decisions and longer-term choices about when to evolve to the next historical era.
Three unit types define the early game. Clubmen are the cheapest option at three meat pieces, fast to deploy, and useful for absorbing pressure while other units are being produced. Stone Throwers cost five meat pieces and provide ranged capability that pure melee units cannot counter effectively.
Dino Riders are the highest investment at seven meat pieces and deliver corresponding impact, functioning as a heavy option that forces opponents to respond with resources they may not have available.
Meat production is the resource bottleneck that every tactical decision runs through. Deploying units faster than your production rate allows leads to empty queues at the moments when pressure matters most, and the upgrades available from earned coins are most effectively spent on food production early rather than unit-specific improvements. A faster production rate makes every other aspect of the strategy more flexible, while neglecting it makes every difficult moment harder than it needs to be.
The mixing principle matters consistently across every engagement. Pure melee formations are vulnerable to ranged units. Pure ranged formations are overrun by fast melee units. Building a deployed force that includes both types with Dino Riders providing heavy support creates a balanced line that requires the opponent to address multiple threats simultaneously, which is where the strategic depth of the unit system actually lives.
The evolution mechanic introduces a significant long-term decision. Moving from the Stone Age to the Farm Age requires 2,000 coins and resets coins, upgrades, and progress entirely. The new era brings stronger unit types that were not available before, but the cost of losing accumulated progress means that timing the evolution correctly is important. Evolving too early leaves you undercooked for the new era’s challenges.
Waiting until the Stone Age is completely maxed out delays access to stronger units longer than necessary. Finding the right moment is part of the strategy that the game does not prescribe for you.
