About the Game

If you ever lost hours to Fireboy and Watergirl in a school computer lab, Fire and Water is going to feel immediately familiar. It draws directly from that formula: two characters, one temple, and 30 levels of cooperative puzzle solving that neither player can complete alone. Each character is bound by their nature, fire stays out of puddles, water stays out of lava, and getting both to their respective doors requires actual teamwork rather than just two people pressing buttons independently.

Working Together

The game is genuinely cooperative in a way that matters mechanically. If one character reaches the final door while the other is stuck on an obstacle, nothing happens. Both have to complete their path for the level to end. That dependency is what makes the game interesting rather than just two parallel solo experiences happening on the same screen. Communication about timing and positioning is not optional here, it is the game.

Obstacles and How to Handle Them

Lava lakes and water puddles are the baseline hazards, each fatal to the wrong character. Beyond those, lasers and rotating platforms introduce the real cooperative challenges. Laser barriers require one player to hold down a button while the other moves through, which means coordinating who does what and when before either of you moves. Levers stay in position after you release them, which opens up possibilities for one character to set a path and then move on. Buttons do not stay pressed, so anything connected to a button requires one player to remain on it while the other acts.

Planning Before Moving

The levels reward players who look at the full layout before touching anything. Identifying where the buttons, levers, and elevators are and deciding in advance which character handles which element saves a lot of restarts. Elevators in particular require planning because you cannot ride one and operate it at the same time, so deciding which character takes the elevator and which one holds the switch is a decision that needs to be made before either player commits to a position.

Controls: Fire uses A and D to move, W to jump. Water uses Left and Right arrows to move, Up arrow to jump.
