Picking People Up

Approaching a person on a rooftop requires flying at the right height. Too high and the rope hangs out of reach, leaving the person unable to grab it regardless of how close you get horizontally. Too low and you risk the helicopter making contact with the platform or surrounding walls, which ends the run immediately with an explosion. The sweet spot is a controlled hover at the height where the rope reaches the person cleanly, holding steady long enough for them to climb up before moving on. Rushing the approach or overcorrecting on the hover is where most pickups go wrong.

Landing at the Finish Point

Delivering rescued civilians to the finish point has its own precision requirement. The helicopter needs to be centered on the landing zone accurately enough that it stops within the designated area rather than continuing forward into a wall. Arriving with too much horizontal momentum means you pass over the zone before you can stop, and the wall on the other side is unforgiving. Slowing your approach before the landing zone rather than trying to stop exactly on it gives you more control over where the helicopter comes to rest.

Wall Awareness

Every wall in every level is an instant failure condition on contact. The confined spaces between rooftops and the narrow corridors you sometimes need to navigate between pickup and delivery points demand constant awareness of your clearance on all sides, not just the direction you are flying. Keeping the helicopter moving slowly and deliberately through tight sections rather than crossing them quickly is the approach that avoids the accidental wall contacts that end runs that were going well up to that point.
