About the Game
American Touchdown takes the core concept of American football and distills it down to its most essential moment: one player has the ball, the other needs to take it, and whoever carries it into the opposing end zone scores. The twist is that your character’s arms and jumps are automatic, which means the skill is not in button combinations but in reading the movement patterns and positioning yourself precisely enough to either hold onto the ball or strip it from your opponent at exactly the right moment.
How the Movement Works
Both characters move automatically in terms of their arms and jumping, which sounds like it removes control but actually creates a different kind of challenge. You are directing your character’s position with A, D, and W, but the arms are swinging on their own timing.
To receive the ball from your opponent you need to approach at the right angle so that your arms are aligned with the ball when they swing through. Getting that alignment wrong means the ball stays in your opponent’s possession even if you are standing right next to them. Mastering that timing and approach angle is what separates clean ball transfers from repeated missed grabs.
Scoring and Winning
A touchdown in American football means carrying the ball into the opponent’s end zone, and that is exactly what you are working toward here. Once you have possession the goal is to move toward the opposing side while your opponent tries to get close enough to take the ball back using the same arm-alignment mechanic.
The back and forth of possession changing hands is where the game finds its rhythm, and two players on the same keyboard makes every match a genuinely competitive contest rather than a practice session against AI.
Two Player Mode
Selecting 2 Players from the main menu puts both players on the same keyboard, with Player 1 on A, D, and W and Player 2 on the left, right, and up arrow keys. The shared keyboard format works well for a game this focused because neither player needs a complex control scheme, and the head-to-head dynamic makes every possession change feel meaningful in a way that solo play against a bot cannot quite replicate.
Controls: Player 1 uses A, D, and W to move. Player 2 uses the left, right, and up arrow keys.
