Your character’s arms move up and down on their own. The shot only matters when the gun tip lines up with the alien standing in front of you, so clicking at the wrong moment sends the bullet into empty space and suddenly it is their turn. One shot back from them and you restart from the very bottom of the staircase. So yes, patience matters more than reflexes here.

Aliens that reach later levels take more than one hit to bring down, which adds a new layer of timing pressure because you need to land consecutive shots while they are still waiting rather than attacking. Get it right and they drop coins. Save up 350 and you unlock a new character: Hitman, Cowboy, or Commando. 250 gets you a new weapon, and yes the AK-47 is in there. Using an AK-47 in space to shoot aliens on a staircase is exactly the kind of absurd premise that makes this game work.
